Thousands saddened after being unable to buy Michelle Obama tickets

Michelle Obama’s London talk has sold out faster than many fans had hoped for, leaving many without tickets.

America’s former First Lady is hosting a UK on-stage talk to promote her new book, Becoming (set to release 13th of November). After her Southbank Centre tickets went live online this morning, fans have been left disappointed after being tens of thousands behind in the online ticket queue and for the 2,700 capacity hall.

In attempts to nab tickets, some fans took to using multiple devices to queue with, in hopes that this will lead to a ticket.

Meanwhile, many have accepted their fate, some waiting as far back as 50,000th in the queue, for the 2,700 capacity hall.

Extortion in ticket resale has become a major issue in recent times, other popular events this year, such as Arctic Monkeys’ UK tour, took steps to prevent this. The Southbank Centre has received some backlash after other online ticket sites (Viagogo specifically) have begun reselling the £65 tickets for thousands of pounds.

The Southbank Centre has responded to some users, claiming that they are dealing with the issue and that tickets bought via these 3rd party sites will be invalid.

And others took issue that the event should have been made more available to black women.

We have contacted the Southbank Centre regarding the resale of their tickets and selling tickets to members first rather than working-class black women but we have not received a response.
