Newsday 5 (28/11/19) – Reflection

The final news day went very well and I was very satisfied with the work we produced.

Ben and I came in with a strong idea about the Lib Dem leaflets that had been posted through local letterboxes which were almost indistinguishable from a local newspaper. Some might call this practice political propaganda.

We were able to contact the Leeds Lib Dems (who were very rude on the phone) for a statement as well as using quotes from Alex Sobel on twitter.

We went out around the Hyde Park area to take photos of people’s houses with political posters in their windows, which is when we decided that the article would be nice to be more photo-based.

We were also able to interview some of the residents about their opinions, an ex-Lib Dem canvasser and one of the academics from our course on his opinions on the tactics the Lib Dems were using.

The article came together quickly and easily and I was very surprised that a political story went so smoothly after all the difficulties we had faced writing our story on the first week’s news day.
