Reflection One

My view of the journalism industry has been shifted slightly. In a culture of fake news and Buzzfeed, I didn’t realise that the mainstream media presented to us on the course would hold itself to such a high standard and work on the whole to better society, as I know more on now after researching the role of journalists in the radical press and their desire to educate the working classes in spite of the taxes on knowledge. Now, after hearing about the work of real journalists and hearing about their ademancy over reporting the correct facts and reporting in a way that reflects the real events, I have a reassurance that journalistic integrity still exists in the digital age.

Over the next 10 weeks I’m most looking forward to the challenge of working a patch and investigating and writing stories in the local area. I think I’ll find this challenging since I usually find myself feeling uncomfortable talking to strangers so forcing myself to speak to local people about events in their area should be interesting… or character building to say the least.

Another challenge will be working to a word count and having to find those last words.
