I would say that there are many differences between traditional print content and online content, the main differences being that online content is designed to be more up-to-date and engaging. While print news often has longer and more detailed stories, this cannot be matched by user ability to scan many news articles at speed to then find fuller articles if the pieces interests them, increasing engagement. Another difference, which also makes online content more engaging, is the online ability to use multimedia aspects in their news with print cannot, such as using animations, videos, audio clips, and comment sections, which all draw in the reader and give them a more active news experience.
According to Nielsen’s own page, ‘People rarely read Web pages word by word; instead, they scan the page, picking out individual words and sentences.’ I think that this is more apparently shown through the style of online writing. By making paragraphs and sentences shorter, a reader is more able to pick out key pieces of information, rather than reading through long print columns of dense paragraphs, making the reader more likely to give up on reading the article than reader online.
