Newsday 2 (7/11/19) – Reflection

I found the second digital news day to be much more successful than the first. This week we came in with a strong story about the LUU having a pet therapy session for students to come to during their lunch break.

We spent most of the morning waiting for the dog session to begin and finding useful statistics regarding dogs and mental health to use as captions for the photos in the article.

The dog session went very well. We were able to interview two owners and four willing students and received good quotes, one especially regarding one of the owners’ experiences doing dog therapy in nursing homes.

I took the photos for the article and was sure to take as many as possible, including a group photo taken on a wide-angle lens.

The article itself was very easy to write up and put together, the only issue we had was editing the article down to only 300 words since we had so many strong quotes we wanted to include in the finished article.

The editing process this week definitely taught me a lot about editing down and letting go of quotes you like if the article runs too long.
